I Want to Look Like That: Dior Pre-Fall 2009

I’m a little more in love with Dior today than usual; first Couture, now Pre-Fall. Although I’ve flirted with several styles in the past few seasons, my heart’s right back at my ultimate favorite — the femme fatale, with a sexy secretary twist. I’m really loving the pop the red shoes add, plus the complimentary lips. Perhaps not the most innovative look, but this is an especially beautiful take on a classic.

Fashion People for $400, Please: John Galliano

Much like “Learn a Line,” this category will be dedicated to an overview of the career/life of one particularly outrageous fashion figure. Let’s start with the biggies:

Name: Juan Carlos Antonio Galliano Guillén

Born: 11/28/1960 in Gibraltar

Education: St. Martin’s School of Arts


  • Galliano’s entire senior presentation, entitled “Les Incroyables” was purchased by Browns.
  • After his first backer fell through, Anna Wintour & Andre Leon Talley introduced Galliano to a large investment firm for financial support. This backing helped to establish John Galliano as a reputable high fashion house. He still produces collections under this line.
  • In 1995, Galliano was appointed head designer at Givenchy.
  • In 1996, he moved to Christian Dior, where he remains.

Aesthetic: Over-the-top thematics made commercial; with an extraordinary attention to detail.
